Winterfest - The Big Stage
‘Winterfest’ is an intiative led by Culture and Sport Glasgow’s Events Team which is an umbrella for a range of civic and cultural events in the city centre from November – January, including the Christmas Lights Switch On, Glasgow on Ice and Hogmanay.
‘The Big Stage’ is exactly as its name suggests a big stage that will be in George Square from 22 November – 11 January. The stage will be programmed throughout this period, with different strands of programme taking place on designated days.
Mondays and Tuesdays from 5-7pm will be ‘Showcase Nights’ and on these evenings, local community groups are invited to perform on the stage.
The CSG Events team is looking for Arts Development support in attracting local community groups who may be interested in taking advantage of this opportunity. There isn’t a budget for programming (i.e. performers wouldn’t be offered a fee) but there would be a production team on the square who would provide free support for sound, lighting, etc. If issues emerge around costs for transport for groups for example, it may be possible to negotiate something with the Events Team (TBC – so we are not in a position to offer that at this stage).
If you know of any groups that may be interested please contact Jill Elborn on 287 9860.
There is also a phone number given in the brochure – 302 2845 – that should be passed on to contacts if they want to get in touch with the Events Team directly.
