Ruchill Play Area opened

North Area, 27/10/2008

Another play area was recently opened as part of the North Glasgow Play Areas Improvement Programme that is supported by North Glasgow Community Planning Partnership, Glasgow City Council – Land and Environmental Services and Glasgow Housing Association (GHA).

The play area is a result of feedback from recent Neighbourhood Management survey that identified children’s play area as one of the top priorities within the Ruchill neighbourhood and will provide a valuable community asset for the people of Ruchill.

Councillor James Coleman, Deputy Leader of the Council and Chairman of Glasgow Community Planning Partnership (GCPP), opened the play area along with children from the Ruchill Autistic Unit and Ruchill and Wester Common Primart Schools. Councillor Coleman said:

“When you see the youngsters’ faces and how much they are enjoying this resource it shows the real worth of this programme. If anyone was sceptical when GCPP carried out the survey all they have to do is come along to Ruchill and see the results for themselves. The residents told us loud and clear what they wanted, we listened and the results are here for everyone to see.”

Bailie Ellen Hurcombe, Chair of the Maryhill/Kelvin and Canal Local Community Planning Partnership Board said:

“This is a great example of partnership working in Glasgow. GHA, Glasgow City Council, GCPP and our local board working with and working for residents.  Access to safe play areas was a priority issue when residents took part in the survey and we are now delighted to see another superb play area open.”
