Evening Transport Service to Hospitals Launched

South West Area, 24/10/2008

Some people experience difficulty getting to hospitals by public transport in the evening, particularly older people, people living with a disability or in receipt of benefits.  This new service will make getting to hospitals in the evening easier - Glasgow’s evening visitor transport service will collect you from your home (or as near as possible), take you to your nearest hospital and take you home again.

The service is available to anyone who lives within the Glasgow City boundary, however space is limited and priority will be given to visitors wishing to travel to their nearest hospital, to older people (over 60), people living with a disability or those in receipt of benefits (criteria is subject to change).  Booking the service couldn’t be easier. For transport to your nearest hospital you will need to get in touch by telephoning the booking hotline 0845 128 4027. You can book between 1pm – 4pm (Monday – Thursday) and between 1pm – 3.30pm on Fridays. For transport to other than your nearest hospital please call the booking line after 3pm.

In order to make the most of this service, you will need to register when you call the above number. You will need to tell us where you live, what hospital you wish to visit and what time visiting begins and ends. Your pick-up will be confirmed by telephone. You will be collected as near as possible to your front door.

The evening visitor transport service operates between 6pm – 10pm, Monday to Friday (except public holidays) and will deliver visitors to the following hospitals:
• Glasgow Royal Infirmary
• Gartnavel General
• Southern General
• Stobhill Hospital
• Victoria Infirmary
• Western Infirmary
