The Gorbals Youth and Community Theatre (GYCT) has been in existence now for nine years and offers training in all aspects of performance theatre. The company caters for young people aged nine to eighteen and offers the opportunity to learn new skills such as singing acting and choreography as well as training in backstage and front of house duties.

Within the drama, training in life skills such as presentation, communication, teamwork, showing initiative and building self-confidence is incorporated. The GYCT often receives requests from agents asking for talented youngsters to audition for professional acting and film work indeed some of our youngsters have Equity status.

In January 2007, the GYCT moved to Queen’s Park Church, 170 Queen’s Drive where the group meets every Wednesday from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. We perform 2 major productions each year – a Pantomime in December and a musical in June. The GYCT also works with TRAM Direct professional theatre company in various projects throughout the year. These placements are seen as part of the training for the young people in theatre skills. So if you live in East Pollokshields, Govanhill, Toryglen or Gorbals then come along and join us any Wednesday for our musical in June.
