Employer Led Project
Successes within this project are best demonstrated through our Case studies:
JEANETTE – with a background of unemployment and caring responsibilities Jean lacked self confidence and self belief. She had poor communication skills and although she had some previous qualifications in care she had never used these.
Following a care course she gained certification in nine areas, including challenging behaviour, personal care etc. She has managed to improve her communication skills and to take control of her learning.
She is working with the Home Care mobile team and her outlook on life is much more positive. She is attending clients with complex caring needs. Her line manager has commented that they are “ Delighted with her progress and with the very good feedback about Jean”
With her improved self confidence she is now making new friends and feels that her overall family life has improved alongside her work life. She feels much more in control of her life.
PAULINE – coming from a background of long term unemployment, ill health and drug use, she undertook a care course in which she gained a range of certificated training as well as personal development support from CEDA.
She has improved her self confidence and has begun to take control of her life as well as improving her skills.
Working as a home carer, feedback from her line manager indicates that “She is very reliable, helps out with extra duties and is loved by the clients.” With support from CEDA and her employer she has dealt with an unrelated family issue which threatened to derail her progress. Because of the support she has had from her line manager she feels great loyalty to her employer – Glasgow City Council.
JACQUELINE – is a lone parent with a long history of unemployment and with significant caring responsibilities in her wider family.
A keen learner who is very articulate Jacqueline was supportive of others within her group. She is progressing very well in her job and her line manager says that they have had “excellent feedback about her and she is very positive on her job.”
Jacqueline has faced several issues including childcare and travel issues. With support from CEDA and from her employer these have all been addressed and she has managed to continue her progress in work. She has improved in her self belief and is very confident about the direction her life is taking. She enjoys making a difference to the quality of life for her clients. Jacqueline was so impressed with the project that she advised a neighbour to take part and that person came off Incapacity Benefits and is now in work.
