Drumchapel 5k
Just short of 1000 people of all ages took to the streets on a Sunday morning at the end of June to take part in the D5K Fun Run, again a roaring success. The event, now in its fourth year, attracted people from far and wide, including one family who travelled over 600 miles, together with hundreds of local people.
Those taking part were out to improve their health and fitness, to enjoy the great family day out and to show that Drumchapel is a vibrant and positive place where great things are happening.
Both the first man and first woman to finish, in around 18 and 20 minutes respectively, were Drumchapel residents, the first year this has happened. Michael Doyle, 16, first man home and a regular football player said ‘it was really enjoyable and very well organised. I’ll be back next year to improve my time’. Donna Finlayson, 22, first woman home and a member of Victoria Park, City of Glasgow Athletics Club said ‘the D5K helps get more young people into sport, especially in Drumchapel, an area that’s up and coming with all the redevelopment happening’.
The event, led by Drumchapel L.I.F.E. is a partnership with Culture and Sport Glasgow, Glasgow City Council - Land and Environmental Services, Strathclyde Police and Glasgow City Council - Education Services and funded by Drumchapel/ Anniesland Area Committee, West Glasgow Community Planning Partnership, Culture and Sport Glasgow and Strathclyde Police.
